The Founder
 

Ciao Carbon Ltd was founded by a technologist whose career has been built around energy systems in the most literal sense.

For more than twenty years, he has flown long-haul passenger and cargo Boeing 747s — operating across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Aviation is an energy management discipline as much as it is a flying one: fuel state, thermal regulation, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ice formation, dewpoint and atmospheric conditions are all active considerations on every flight. Two decades of operating in varied climates and weather systems, across dozens of countries, has produced an understanding of energy, atmosphere, and environment that sits outside any single engineering discipline.

In 2014, he installed twelve first-generation Solarus concentrating PV-T collectors — hands-on work that included commissioning, performance monitoring, and failure mode analysis. Since then, his work has extended across a range of building energy technologies: seasonal thermal storage, drain water heat recovery, foundation insulation, rainwater harvesting, and others — applied to a house in Denmark that now uses approximately 30% of the energy of comparable properties in the same development. The combination — sustained practical exposure to solar thermal, and a career spent reasoning about energy across climates and conditions — is the foundation from which DLCT is being developed. The technology did not emerge from a laboratory. It emerged from noticing a problem that existing solutions do not solve.
